CHRISTIAN TELLEZ | FEATURED Artist

Hacienda CDC hired Portland artist Christian Tellez to transform the Portland Mercado’s parking lot fence into a celebration of Latin culture. The mural features the sharing of food and music as themes to illustrate the vibrant cultural traditions of the region. Its colorful illustrations are a beautiful reminder of how each culture contributes to the region’s shared experience.

Portland Mercado, a community economic development initiative of Hacienda CDC, hosted a celebration to mark the completion of the new mural, with music, a ceremony and diverse food offerings, much in the style of the space itself.  The Mercado’s objective is to bridge diverse cultures through food, art, and entertainment within its community of permanent businesses, at its public market and Comcast Plaza, small business support programming, and incubator kitchen.

Portland Mercado Mural

“The happiness of giving and sharing inspires the Portland Mercado Mural. For Latin American culture, sharing a table with food is a common sign of care and love,” said Tellez. We want to share the same with the Portland community. The vibrance of colorful ingredients and fruits reflects the happiness of sharing a good time with friends and family, and music can’t be missing on those occasions.”
