B&B is honored to partner with and showcase the Oregon Zoo Foundation in our 2026 community desk calendar! The Oregon Zoo Foundation helps the Oregon Zoo care for animals like the Orangutan, inspire conservation action, and educate the public, funding programs in wildlife research, species recovery, and environmental education both locally and around the world.
Each month, the calendar showcases a beautiful photograph of a zoo animal and highlights inspiring stories of conservation successes and how individuals and corporations can make a difference. Ways to contribute include joining the Sustaining Herd, becoming a Giving Circle member, or supporting other initiatives that help animals thrive at the zoo.
We hope this calendar raises your awareness about the Oregon Zoo

Orangutan | B&B Calendar April Featured Animal
Orangutans are the only great apes that spend their lives high in the rainforest canopy, moving effortlessly through the trees with their long arms, opposable thumbs and toes, and incredibly flexible joints. Native only to Borneo and Sumatra, the two orangutan species have been isolated from one another for more than a million years.
Brilliant problem-solvers, orangutans use leaves as umbrellas and hats, craft tools, and even teach their young how and where to find more than 300 kinds of fruit. They build new tree nests each night — sometimes 120 feet above the forest floor — and mothers care for their babies for up to six years. But these remarkable apes are critically endangered due to poaching and the rapid loss of rainforest habitat from logging, agriculture, and expanding palm oil plantations.
The Oregon Zoo has worked for more than 25 years with partners in Sabah, Malaysia, supporting conservation in Borneo’s Kinabatangan floodplain — a biodiversity hotspot and major palm-oil–producing region where orangutans, elephants, sun bears, pangolins, and clouded leopards live among forests, farms, and local communities. These partnerships help advance wildlife protection, habitat conservation, and coexistence across this vital landscape.
