Packaging Trends to Boost your Health and Wellness Brand

| How To / Marketing / Packaging

Over the past decade, the health and wellness industry has rapidly expanded thanks to increased fitness, beauty, and health products on the market. The increase in lifestyle-related illnesses coupled with social media and its many influencers are significant drivers behind the rise. It is estimated that $4.2 trillion worldwide is spent each year, with more than 6% growth expected annually. With increasingly health-conscious consumers and an amplified focus on health and wellness since the pandemic, it’s no wonder packaging trends in this area are at the forefront.

clean packaging

Clean labels innovation

Health and wellness consumers are naturally cautious of misleading brands. A “clean label” is a packaging industry term referring to the demand for recognizable ingredients on product labels. This term is still evolving, with many plant-based products pushing for clarification.

Gender-neutrality

Health and wellness can be important to many individuals, regardless of their gender. Gender-neutral packaging design is on the rise as brands look to be inclusive of all consumers. Products are losing their distinctly masculine and feminine cues in favor of more simple, straightforward styling and even scents.

Selling sustainability

Consumers who are health and wellness-conscious are also environmentally aware. In a recent study, 74% of consumers said they were willing to pay more for goods packaged sustainably. The number of sustainable packaging options has grown considerably over the past decade.  These include the availability of various recycled papers, vegetable or soy-based inks, and filler materials sourced from such unique materials, like mushrooms!  Earlier this year, Schick became the first company to debut a disposable, mass-market razor produced from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. Both their razor and the packaging it comes in are fully recyclable.

CBD and cannabis boom

The stress and anxiety of the pandemic had even the staunchest naysayers turning to CBD and cannabis products to help take their minds off turbulent times. CBD is a growing ingredient in skincare products as well. These products are highly regulated, bringing additional challenges for safety and distribution.
