,B&B has created desk calendars for our customers over the past two decades. Earlier versions featured a variety of subjects, including pet photos, iconic Portland locations, and employee-submitted photos. The sales team felt we could enhance our local impact by partnering with nonprofits in the region. This is where the idea of the B&B Portland-Area Community Desk Calendar Project took flight in the fall of 2019.
Over the years, the project has evolved into a unique platform where art, community, and impactful nonprofit missions come to life through beautifully designed desk calendars, leveraging the print and packaging production tools and talent we have in-house. Beyond the print and graphics, B&B Print Source has worked with each non-profit partner to bring their mission and work to the forefront through thoughtful storytelling, design collaboration, and brand integrity.
Over the past 7 years, B&B’s creative team has engineered the format, design, and production elements. These calendars were spiral-bound. Later, the partnership focused on incorporating calendar packaging, a stand, and individual pages for later display.
Community Desk Calendar Origins
2020 & 2021: Portland Street Art Alliance
The project was born through a partnership with the Portland Street Art Alliance (PSAA), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting street artists across the Pacific Northwest. In 2020 and 2021, B&B worked closely with PSAA, assisting in writing and refining copy that highlighted both the artists and their work, as well as the larger story of urban transformation. One example is the remarkable Sunshine Dairy mural project in Portland.
2022: Regional Arts & Culture Council
In 2022, the calendar project partnered with the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC). RACC focuses on increasing arts access in the Portland area. B&B collaborated with RACC, supporting the nonprofit by collaborating on impactful copy and carefully selecting images that reflected its diverse programming. The calendar design was thoughtfully crafted to embrace RACC’s visual identity and values. Each month’s story reinforced their role as a vital arts advocate.
2023: Artslandia
The 2023 community desk calendar edition celebrated Artslandia, a nonprofit dedicated to showcasing the rich diversity of Portland’s performing arts scene. This edition highlighted performances from some of the city’s most beloved institutions, including the Portland Ballet Theater, Portland Center Stage, and the Oregon Symphony. B&B worked closely with Artslandia to craft compelling copy and carefully select dynamic imagery that captured the energy and artistry while working within the design layout. The cultural significance of Portland’s performing arts community is shared each month, inviting calendar users to experience the magic of local live performance and celebrate the artists who bring these stories to life on stage.
2024: Native Arts and Cultures Foundation
For 2024, the Community Calendar Project partnered with the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation (NACF). The NACF is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Native artists and culture bearers across the United States, with a strong focus on the Northwest region. Throughout the project, B&B Print Source worked closely with NACF’s team to manage every aspect of the calendar’s development. Our team coordinated assets and content, ensuring the visual representation aligned with NACF’s brand. This close collaboration helped raise awareness of NACF’s important work in nurturing Indigenous creativity and cultural preservation.
2025: Wild Salmon Center
The 2025 community desk calendar honors Wild Salmon Center. Since 1992, Wild Salmon Center has promoted the conservation and sustainable use of wild Pacific salmon ecosystems. B&B’s team collaborated with the Center’s staff to distill their environmental messages into accessible, engaging copy and prioritized powerful waterway and fish imagery that conveyed both urgency and beauty. The monthly calendar card design and printing balanced engaging facts, graphic elements, and photography with the Center’s identity, helping educate all who interacted with the content.
Looking Ahead: Oregon Zoo Foundation in 2026
Looking forward to 2026, the B&B Community Calendar Project chose the Oregon Zoo Foundation! Our goal is to help foster community pride and involvement in the Oregon Zoo’s efforts to secure financial support for animal well-being, species recovery, and conservation education. Once again, our team worked alongside the marketing and development team to curate a year-long story in this year’s calendar that communicates the Foundation’s work. Collaboration on design, images, and copywriting brought the elements together as a desktop reference to bring smiles, inspire, and educate users throughout the year.
