Smith River, CA | B&B Calendar December Featured River
The jewel of California’s North Coast is the Smith River—a ribbon of fast, clearwater running through the Klamath-Siskiyou Range, ringed by gallery forests of redwoods and Port Orford cedars. In centuries past, the Smith supported epic runs of wild fall Chinook. Today, it’s experiencing some of the harshest effects of human development and climate change among all West Coast strongholds.
The Smith River Alliance is leading the effort to conserve and restore this critical stronghold, and we’re honored to call this powerful coalition a partner. As the West Coast’s southernmost stronghold, the Smith is key to Wild Salmon Center’s vision of an intact North Pacific archipelago.
