PROTECTION: ADAPTATION & RESISTANCE | B&B December Calendar Featured EXHIBITION
NACF was honored to host the nationally touring exhibition, Protection: Adaptation and Resistance at The Center for Native Arts and Cultures in the Summer of 2023.
The exhibition explored three themes:
1. Land and Culture Protectors
2. Activists for Justice and Sovereignty
3. Resilient Futures
Protection: Adaptation and Resistance centered Indigenous ways of knowing, showcasing twenty IndigenousAlaska artists’ responses to the pandemic, climate change, and cultural survival through both customary techniques and innovative contemporary approaches. Working within intergenerational learning groups and as collaborators in vibrant community networks, Alaska’s Indigenous artists are invigorating traditional stories in customary arts and proposing resilient futures through design, tattoo, regalia, and graphic arts. Artist projects elevated collaboration, allyship, and community as tools of resistance, adaptation, and cultural affirmation.
