Delger River, Mongolia | B&B Calendar May Featured River
Across the steppes of Mongolia, massive rivers flow east, toward the Pacific. In many lurk taimen, an imperiled megafish and the largest salmonid in the world. This group of ancient species is found only in Mongolia, Japan, and the Russian Far East.
Wild Salmon Center launched the International Taimen Initiative to conduct a first-of-its-kind taimen research project across their range. On Mongolia’s Onon and Delger Rivers, we are working with partners to conduct spring spawning studies and summertime monitoring programs to track taimen abundance, feeding behavior, and river temperatures.
