B&B + NATIVE ARTS AND CULTURES FOUNDATION CALENDAR – March 2024
We’re excited to announce our 2024 partnership with The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, a Native-led, national nonprofit that advances equity and cultural knowledge, focusing on the power of arts and collaboration to strengthen Native communities and promote positive social change with American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native peoples in the United States. The March calendar features Anthony Hudson and Felix Furby, two of the 2023 SHIFT – Transformative Change and Indigenous Arts program awardees.
We hope that you will use this calendar as an opportunity to explore Native arts and cultures to provoke thought and spark discussion. You can order the calendar absolutely free by jumping on our list HERE.
ANTHONY HUDSON + FELIX FURBY | B&B Calendar march Featured artists
Anthony Hudson (Grand Ronde, Siletz) is an artist, writer, and 2018 NACF National Artist Fellow well known as Portland’s premier drag clown, Carla Rossi.
Felix Furby (Grand Ronde, Chinook Nation) is a linguist, carver, Indigenous historical researcher, and Indigiqueer advocate.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
In celebration of Oregon’s queer Indigenous history, Anthony and Felix will organize The Shimkhin Project, a touring exhibition and supporting programming about transfeminine Atfalati (Tualatin) Kalapuya healer Shimkhin (1820-1904). The project will also highlight contemporary international Two Spirit and Indigiqueer visual art, voices, and contributions. Lead Partner Chachalu Tribal Museum and Cultural Center in Grand Ronde will host the exhibition.
“We hope this leads to establishing a dedicated, physical queer resource room and safer space at Grand Ronde. Ultimately, we want to shift the culture at Grand Ronde to honor and make space for our queer ancestors and living LGBTQIA Tribal members today and help our community remember that we are here and sacred.”
– Anthony Hudson and Felix Furby
Featured on the March calendar is Shimkin, a reconstructed portrait of Atfalati Kalapuya healer Shimkhin designed by Steph Littlebird.
