JEREMY OKAI DAVIS | Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) Calendar | JUNE Featured ARTIST

Jeremy Okai Davis is a Portland, Oregon-based portraiture artist who works mainly in acrylics on canvas. Originally from North Carolina, Jeremy received a BFA in painting from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, NC in 2002. His work has been featured throughout the United States and is currently represented by the Elizabeth Leach Gallery.

In his work, he attempts to present portraits that invite further exploration and investigation. His goal is to make paintings that challenge the way we view people of color. His current work is more focused on his personal life and the current cultural climate, working to create pieces that speak to racism and healing.

Title of work: The SwingBB and RACC June Calendar

The June calendar features Jeremy’s art, The Swing. The right side of the painting features a vintage image of four kids playing on a swing in Portland, OR, representing the innocence of youth and opportunity for growth. The portrait is of Adrienne Nelson, lawyer and judge, the first African-American to sit on the Oregon Supreme Court and appellate court. This honors her milestones and speaks to hope, promise, conviction, and strength, using bright colors to spark happiness and pie charts to show the breakdown of race in Multnomah County and the criminal justice system.

Visit this art locally at the Multnomah County’s Central Courthouse on Floor 9. Created with acrylic on panel, this 9′ by 10′ artwork is difficult to miss.

Print details: This calendar page is printed on the Xerox Iridess Digital Press. The look was achieved using CMYK process plus metallic gold toner for a metallic pop. The paper substrate is Neenah Classic Techweave, Solar White.
